<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In 1999, the Mountbrook Group acquired the former Irish Ropes site in conjunction with joint venture partner Ballymore Properties.<br>Seven years later, the Whitewater Shopping Centre opened its doors and has been trading successfully ever since. Situated in the heart of Newbridge Town, Whitewater is the country’s largest retail complex outside the Dublin.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Centre measures 86,500 sqm with 70 retailers in a two-level mall, supporting facilities include a food court with 550 seats, a six-screen cinema, 50 residential units and parking for 1,700 cars in both basement and a multi-storey carpark.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We acted as transportation adviser to the development, which included the design of the Newbridge Inner Relief Road improvement Scheme for Kildare County Council.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Park, Carrickmines, is the premier retail park destination in Dublin and is located on a site adjacent to the M50 Dublin orbital motorway and the Cherrywood extension of the LUAS line B. It comprises a mix of retail and office use on a 37-acre site.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We have provided all civil and traffic engineering services for the development from masterplanning to construction. Infrastructure works included dualling of a section of the Glenamuck road linking the estate to the Leopardstown junction on the M50, as well as high quality estate infrastructure within the development.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The civil infrastructure for Phase 1 of the development was completed in 2005, with Phase 2 completed in 2008, and includes water features and areas of cobble road surface, which help to control vehicle speed. A high standard of finish has been provided for external areas, with granite kerbing and paving and stainless-steel furniture throughout.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Large at-grade parking areas serving the retail units have been designed using a permeable paving system to allow for percolation of rainwater to the ground, thus minimising stormwater retention requirements for the site. No gullies or underground drainage pipe system has been installed in the parking area, with no flooding problems being experienced since the retail centre opened.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Vantage is a large residential development in south Dublin which is specifically designed for the rental market. It is ideally located adjacent to the Central Park and Sandyford office parks and directly beside the Central Park LUAS stop, thus providing residents with hassle free access to the city centre.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The 170-apartment scheme consists of three blocks, ranging in height from seven to 10-storeys, all over a common podium. A mix of retail and commercial units are situated on the ground floor alongside a playground and open space facilities for the residents to enjoy. The individual blocks are linked at several levels by pedestrian bridge structures.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Waterman Moylan was appointed to carry out civil, structural and traffic engineering works.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A precast concrete solution was adopted for the superstructure construction as the layout of the apartments was conducive to a crosswall system, whereby precast concrete party wall elements support precast concrete floors. Reconstituted stone panels were used for the building façade.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In addition to the precast concrete superstructure, prefabricated bathroom pods were used in the construction process, thus reducing the trades work on the site. The use of the precast system and the pods allowed for a high level of off-site manufacture and a rapid build process with the project being completed from podium level to finish in less than a year.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The project was completed in 2015.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Planning consent has been sought for a new cruise berth to cater for the latest generation cruise ships at Dun Laoghaire Harbour, Dublin.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Waterman Moylan was appointed to undertake the masterplanning and preliminary design of this major new facility.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The scheme is designed for 340m long 155,000 GT cruise ships and includes a new jetty, monopile breasting and mooring dolphins and a 2km long approach channel involving 700,000 m3 of dredging.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Our appointment to undertake the masterplanning was subsequently extended to take the design of the project through to the preparation of a planning application and an Environmental Impact Statement.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Project development was advanced in two stages, with an initial option appraisal followed by scheme design in parallel with the Environmental Impact Statement.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The option appraisal included a study of alternative fixed and floating type quay structures, different quay locations and options for dredging that minimise the impact on the existing listed structures.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The scheme design was completed for a fixed jetty structure and an optimised design for the approach channel which minimises the volume of dredging while at the same time providing safe access for the cruise ships. As part of the EIS, various ecological and archaeological surveys have been undertaken, as well as numerical modelling of the harbour to evaluate the potential changes in the wave climate, the current flows and the sedimentation regime and a range of other investigations.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Waterman Moylan was previously responsible for the design and procurement of berthing facilities to accommodate cruise tendering operations in the harbour, and as a result the Harbour received calls from Cunard Lines Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth in 2013 and has a growing schedule of calls from large cruise ships in 2015 and 2016.</p>
