Our structural experts Patrick Crean and Damien Kelly recently authored a technical paper showcasing our novel approach to the construction of a Dublin hotel using semi top-down construction methodology. To share this innovative solution and present the paper, Patrick came together with industry peers at the Civil Engineering Research in Ireland 2024 Conference at the University of Galway, where he joined the panel for the ‘Structures 1, Eng-2033’ session.
The paper discusses the construction of an eight-storey hotel with a basement at the site of River House, the former motor tax office in Dublin city’s Chancery Street, where an assessment indicated the basement area required detailed archaeological investigation. To accommodate this whilst avoiding jeopardising the proposed project completion date, a novel semi top-down construction approach was developed by our team, becoming the first of its kind in Ireland.
