Waterman Moylan provided civil and structural engineering services for a new 16 classroom primary school as part of a larger educational campus facility in Naas, Co. Kildare.
This attractive new €4m primary school is one of the first VEC-managed developments and has been designed to provide bright and modern teaching spaces, further to multi-purpose rooms for its 400 pupils.
The site slopes steeply, and as a result a split-level solution was adopted for the building to take maximum advantage of the natural profile of the ground.
The building consists of a single and two-storey structure, constructed using a mixture of concrete strip and pad foundations, in situ concrete floor slabs, precast concrete walls and precast hollow-core floor slabs.
The school also includes a steel framed double height general purpose room, with precast wall panels and a lightweight mono-pitch roof with feature glulam beams supporting lightweight cladding.
