Niall Coughlan

Services

Niall graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in 1999 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has worked in Building Services consultancy for over 15 years.

A Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland, Niall previously worked as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer and Sustainable Design specialist for a large Dublin-based consultancy firm.

Here he was involved in the design and project management of mechanical services installations for a wide variety of projects across various sectors, including offices, healthcare, schools and residential. He also managed the company’s sustainability division, which specialised in operational energy audits, renewable energy feasibility studies and BREEAM consultancy services.

Niall joined Waterman Moylan in 2014, and his current role involves managing our Dublin-based Building Services team where he oversees the work of the dedicated team. He remains closely involved in multiple projects and has extensive experience in developing energy efficient strategies and Part L Compliance approaches for housing and apartment developments.

Joe Gibbons

Joe joined Waterman in London in 1986 where he spent eight years before returning to Ireland in 1994 to join Waterman Moylan. A Chartered Civil Engineer with over 30 years’ experience.

Joe’s extensive expertise includes project management, and he has played a leading role in civil and structural engineering and traffic teams on a wide range of projects throughout Ireland. This includes traffic and transportation, roads, access, and parking design, drainage design, SUDs and infrastructure works.

Joe is highly regarded by the clients he has worked with because of the clarity of advice and quality of service that he delivers.

He currently manages the Civil Engineering division of Waterman Moylan where he provides invaluable input at planning and pre-planning stage of projects. Joe has also been instrumental in successfully achieving planning permission for a vast variety of building projects across Ireland.

Richard Osbourne

Richard has led Waterman Moylan’s Structural Engineering teams since 2011. Starting his career in 1998, he joined Waterman Group following his graduation from Bradford University with a degree in Structural Engineering.

Richard spent five years with the Group in the UK before transferring to the Dublin office where he was appointed to Waterman Moylan’s board in 2011. A Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland and an ACEI fellow professional consulting Engineer, Richard has extensive experience in all sectors of the property market. Throughout his career he has played a central role as a designer and an engineering team leader for major schemes across Ireland, spanning the office, residential, retail, education, healthcare, hotel and leisure, industrial and government sectors.

Richard is valued by our clients for his vision and creativity, which sees him rapidly identify and outline the most efficient and relevant structural solution for projects of all types.

Mark Duigan

Mark graduated from Trinity College Dublin 2004 with a B.A. and B.A.I. honours degree in Civil, Structural, Transportation and Environmental Engineering. A Chartered Professional Engineer with over 12 years’ experience.

Mark’s expertise spans civil engineering and waste-water management design, SuDs design, road and infrastructure design. Between 2007 and 2008, Mark travelled overseas, where he worked as a Site Engineer and Design Civil Engineer for Demlakian and Finbar International Ltd in Australia.

In 2011, Mark was appointed as a Senior Engineer at Waterman Moylan and was promoted to Associate in 2016. Throughout his career with Waterman Moylan, he has been responsible for managing and leading multidisciplinary design teams on a variety of civil engineering projects from feasibility stage through to planning, tender, construction and on to final sign-off.

Mark’s extensive portfolio spans a wide variety of large residential and mixed-use developments, with key highlights including the Clongriffin and Oldtown/Mooretown developments in North Dublin.

Eoghan Loughrey

Eoghan graduated from the Dublin Institute of Technology in 1996 with a Diploma in Structural Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science. A chartered member of both Engineers Ireland and the Institution of Civil Engineers since 2003.

Eoghan has worked on projects throughout Ireland and the UK, whilst also contributing to schemes in Europe and the Middle East. Eoghan joined Waterman Moylan in 2005 where he has worked across many different sectors on a wide range of projects spanning everything from one-off houses to Ireland’s tallest building. In 2010, he became an Associate.

Passionate about engineering, Eoghan is keenly focused on project deliverables and standards, a strength which is recognised by the loyal clients he has worked with over the years.

A deep interest in Dublin’s history and heritage buildings led Eoghan to attend the University of Dublin in 2011 to complete a postgraduate Diploma in Building Conservation and Restoration with Distinction.

Alan Brophy

Alan graduated from the Dublin Institute of Technology, Bolton Street, in 2012 with an honours degree in Building Services Engineering. A Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland, Alan began his career in 2002 when he completed a Certificate in Mechanical Engineering at Tallaght Institute of Technology.

He then completed an apprenticeship in plumbing with a leading mechanical and building services contractor and subsequently was responsible for installation and maintenance of mechanical services for numerous hospital, education, retail and commercial building projects. This hands-on experience ensures Alan takes a very practical approach to his role as a lead building services designer, and his projects benefit from his detailed understanding of the importance of addressing buildability and ease of maintenance at the design stage.

Alan joined the Waterman Moylan team in 2015 as a Senior Mechanical Engineer and was promoted to Associate in 2019. His design expertise encompasses residential development, education, commercial, health sector and public building works, and he has contributed to a wide range of new build, fit-out and refurbishment schemes throughout Ireland. He is an SEAI registered domestic BER assessor.

Alan’s contracting experience has given him a strong interest in advancing safety on construction sites which has seen him qualify to act as a Project Supervisor – Design Process and he regularly advises clients on health and safety matters relating to building development and operation.

Anthony Byrne

Anthony graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2004 with a Degree in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering and he has worked in Structural Engineering in Canada, the UK and Ireland. A Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland, Anthony’s international experience includes lead structural design roles and project delivery for a diverse range of projects, including stadia and aquatic centres, city centre residential, retail and office developments and the restoration of historic buildings. One of his more prestigious roles was as lead designer for the award-winning Cheltenham Racecourse Grandstand, completed in 2015.

Anthony joined Waterman Moylan in 2015, where he is responsible for successfully leading one of our structural design teams, and he was promoted to Associate in 2019. His portfolio since joining Waterman Moylan includes Grade A city centre offices, retail and mixed-use city centre developments, hotels and high-density residential projects. Highly skilled in developing structural designs using all major materials and systems, Anthony is a strong proponent of the use of BIM on all new development projects.

Emma Caulwell

Emma joined Waterman Moylan in 2019 having spent eight years at Price & Myers in their London office, where she was a Civil Engineering Associate working on various development projects in the City of London. A Chartered Engineer. Emma graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology with a BSc in Engineering in 2008, before going on to achieve an MSc in Energy Management in 2011.

Emma has developed expertise in the design of civil engineering works for residential, office, retail and mixed-use projects. Many of these schemes were completed on constrained sites and required detailed liaison with third parties, such as London Underground, Thames Water, Transport for London etc and more recently, Irish Water, TII and all the Dublin Local Authorities. She is a highly proficient drainage and SuDS designer, and has expertise in flood risk assessment, water supply design, utilities coordination and all aspects of civil engineering for development works.

Her recent track record includes the successful delivery of major office, residential and mixed-use development in Dublin city centre as well as greenfield development in the city suburbs and surrounding counties.

Michael Conneally

Michael Conneally

Michael graduated from University College, Dublin, in 2002 and has since worked in Structural Engineering in Dublin, New Zealand and California. Having spent several years designing in the seismically active New Zealand, he progressed to leading his own project teams and completed projects in high-rise residential and commercial developments, high-end retail and medical facilities.

A Chartered Engineer with both the Institute of Professional Engineers of New Zealand and Engineers Ireland, Michael is also an ACEI Registered Professional Consulting Engineer. His extensive experience spans all aspects of the construction industry from the design of high-performance medical buildings with critical post disaster functions in areas of high seismic activity, to the preservation and restoration of protected buildings. As a result of his time overseas, Michael is comfortable working with various international structural engineering design codes.

In 2011, Michael returned to Ireland and joined Waterman Moylan. He was promoted to Associate in 2015 and runs one of the company’s Structural Engineering teams. In recent years, his team has completed many prestigious developments throughout the country including significant renovation projects involving the repurposing of existing buildings and structures.

 

Margaret Dolan

Margaret completed an Electrical Engineering Technicians course at Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) in 1985, before graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Electrical Services and Energy Management. A Chartered Engineer with over 30 years’ experience.

Margaret has a wealth of expertise in building services design engineering and project management. Throughout her career, she has delivered both large- and small-scale projects in the industrial, commercial, institutional, healthcare and cultural sectors. Margaret joined Waterman Moylan in 2014 and is an Associate in our Dublin Building Services team.

In 2007, Margaret was elected to Chair the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Republic of Ireland. She has been an active committee member for the past 16 years and served as Honorary Secretary for eight years. For several years, Margaret acted as an industry representative on the interview committee for lecturers at the Dublin Institute of Technology, and she was also the CIBSE representative on a BRAB working group on the elaboration of 2010 Part L Building Regulations ‘Targets for buildings other than Dwellings’.

Margaret’s extensive portfolio includes the recently completed Grand Canal Square Theatre, now known as the Board Gais Theatre. The new 2,100 seat performing arts theatre and adjoining 40,000 sqm office complex was designed by Studio Daniel Libeskind of New York. This outstanding project received the ACEI (Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland) ‘Design Excellence’ award in March 2011 for its exemplary mechanical and electrical services design.

Kevin Farrell Waterman Dublin

Services

Kevin graduated from the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) with a Diploma in Building Services Engineering in 1998 and obtained a master’s degree in engineering from the Open University in 2006 with over 25 years experience. Kevin joined Waterman Moylan in 2015 and is an Associate with our Building Services team in Dublin. With over 25 years’ experience as a building services design engineer and project manager, he is also a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland.

Kevin has developed his electrical engineering skills across a diverse range of projects in residential, retail, commercial, office development, educational, healthcare and mixed-use developments, and he has a strong track record for the delivery of high-quality electrical designs. His experience encompasses electrical design, value engineering, project management, sustainable design, and commissioning management.

Whilst most of his career has been based in Ireland, Kevin has also spent time in the Middle East working for an international design and project management company, where he was Lead Electrical Engineer for a new 18,000 student university campus in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.

 

Brendan Gallagher

Brendan joined Waterman Moylan in 2014 having spent three years working for The Office of Public Works in Dublin. In this role, he gained valuable experience working Public Works contracts.

He graduated from Trinity College Dublin with B.A. and B.A.I. honours degree in Civil, Structural, Transportation and Environmental Engineering, and he has been a Chartered Engineer since 2017.

Brendan is highly experienced in Public Works contracts having worked on Schools Project Bundles for Department of Education whilst working in the Office of Public Works, and subsequently for Waterman Moylan. In addition, he has a wealth of experience in the delivery of Social Housing Schemes for various Local Authorities.

Brendan is highly proficient in all stages of Civil Engineering projects from inception and preliminary design through to construction and sign-off of civil engineering works for residential, office, retail, education and mixed-use projects throughout Ireland.

He has extensive experience in road, traffic and drainage design in compliance with local and national design standards.

Damien Kelly

Damien Kelly

Damien graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) in 2011 with a master’s degree in Structural Engineering with Architecture. He joined Waterman Moylan in the same year, having previously completed an industry placement with us as part of his degree studies at UCD.

Damien is a Chartered Engineer with experience in a variety of sectors across Ireland and the UK, including residential, retail, commercial, hotel and mixed-use developments. With expertise in the application of finite element analysis and design software, combined with harnessing Revit 3-D modelling systems to analyse and design complex structures, Damien is fully at ease working to various collaborative BIM standards. He was responsible for the modelling and design of key concrete elements for one of the tallest precast concrete buildings in Europe, the Two Fifty-One residential tower in London.

Damien leads one of our Structural Engineering teams and has been responsible for delivering a number of prestigious developments throughout Ireland, including a number of technology and office buildings, hotels and apartment developments.

Damien is passionate about the training and development of student and graduate engineers to maximise their potential as engineers for the future. He utilises his own student placement experience with Waterman Moylan and combines this with his professional expertise to guide the training needs of the next generation of engineers.

Richard Nelson

Richard graduated from University College Dublin in 2009 with a master’s degree in Structural Engineering with Architecture. Since graduating, he has worked for Waterman Group in Ireland and London, collaborating with leading international architects on schemes ranging from one-off private developments to large regeneration masterplans with complex site constraints. Richard is a Chartered Engineer with both Engineers Ireland and the Institute of Structural Engineers.

His international experience includes lead structural design roles specialising in financial and commercial developments, refurbishment and retained facades, as well as high-rise residential developments with mixed-use schemes. Richard became an Associate in 2017 while working in Waterman’s London office.

Richard has a keen interest in sustainability and innovation in structural design and the built environment. He is highly conversant in detailed engineering discussions and aims to deliver value engineering by minimising the quantum of materials used in construction through utilising advanced approaches to structural engineering and design.
Richard leads one of our Structural Engineering teams who are adept in the use of BIM on all project types. He is a keen proponent of using hand sketches to articulate structural schemes that then evolve into detailed 3D computer models.

Ian Worrell Waterman Dublin

Ian Worrell

Ian graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology in 1996 with a BSc in Engineering. In 2004, he gained a post Graduate Diploma in Physical Planning from Trinity College Dublin. A Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland.

Ian has extensive expertise in the assessment of existing and planned drainage networks, flood studies and environmental management of surface water (SuDS) as well as traffic engineering, transport assessments, junction design and mobility management.

His experience spans the delivery of civil engineering services across a wide range of developments, including private residential, industrial, commercial, hotels and sporting facilities throughout Ireland, UK and the Middle East.

Ian joined Waterman Moylan in 1996 and became a Civil Engineering Associate in 2005. He leads our multidisciplinary team in the provision of social housing units for Dublin City Council, Kildare County Council, Wicklow County Council and South Dublin County Council. He also leads the Education team which is heavily involved with providing vital schools through the Department of Education Framework, which has seen the delivery of over 40 school projects to date.

Brian McCann

Brian graduated from University College Dublin with a degree in Civil Engineering and went on to gain a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from Imperial College, London. A Fellow of Engineers Ireland and a member of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland, Brian is also a chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Prior to joining Waterman Moylan, Brian was head of engineering at URS Ireland. During a twenty-year period, he directed several significant development projects and became highly experienced in delivering structural engineering and temporary structure designs for events and transportation.

In 2005, he joined Waterman Moylan as an Associate Director to manage the Transportation Division in Dublin. He is currently a consultant specialising in development engineering for housing, retail and industrial projects.

Kienan O Neill

Kieran graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) in 1986 with a BSc (Eng) before going on to complete a Master’s in Engineering Design at University College Dublin (UCD) in 1994 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Construction Health & Safety from Trinity College Dublin (TCD).

With 30 years’ experience in design and project management, Kieran is a Chartered Engineer and a member of IOSH. Prior to joining Waterman Moylan, Kieran was the Design Manager at Intel Ireland responsible for construction projects ranging from facilities upgrades, infrastructure works, datacentres, building services, offices and cafe refurbishments.

During major capital programmes, he managed the semiconductor equipment installation design team and Health & Safety coordination (PSDP). In the last major capital programme at Intel, the team completed 7.7 million man-hours for a US$5 billion refurbishment project. As a result, they received a NISO distinction award in recognition at national level for strong safety leadership and workplace health and safety, Kieran joined Waterman Moylan in 2016 as a Health and Safety Consultant, and is responsible for providing Project Supervisor (PSDP) services for commercial, residential, and institutional projects either as a stand-alone service or integrated within our engineering consultancy work in civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering design.
