Porterstown Bridge

Published 29th August 2022

Waterman Moylan provided civil and structural engineering services for the Porterstown Bridge, a seven-span, 146 m-long highway bridge crossing the Royal Canal and Iarnród Éireann mainline railway.

Providing a direct link between Blanchardstown Town Centre and new residential development areas to the south of the Royal Canal, the bridge accommodates a single two-lane carriageway, cycle ways and footpaths, further to 800 m of approach embankments up to seven metres in height, and roundabouts at either end.

The bridge is a reinforced concrete structure with precast bridge beams and GRC skirting panels incorporated to provide a clean edge profile to the deck.

The €7m development involved extensive liaison with rail and canal authorities.
